Astha: Directed by Srilekha Banerjee. With Shatarupa Sarkar, Agomoni Chowdhury, Smritika Banerjee. This film revolves around the journey of Ananya, a vibrant young woman who is diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. She is a beloved mother of a 6 year old daughter and a singer. As she undergoes the intensive treatment, the toll on her body and mind becomes increasingly apparent. Despite the tremendous pain and fear, Ananya refuses to let cancer defeat her spirit. She reaches out to more cancer patients to share their journey. She draws strength from the love and support of her family. Through flashbacks, we see glimpses of different aspects of Ananya's life - her life before diagnosis, her dreams, her passion and overall her indomitable spirit that refuses to be extinguished. As the film progresses we find Ananya taking care of a lifeless plant in the garden. She begins to see a reflection of herself in the plant's barren state. Determined to restore the plant to its former glory, Ananya starts tending to it with a renewed sense of purpose. In her darkest moments, Ananya finds solace in the quiet act of nurturing the plant, seeing it as a metaphor for her own internal struggle. In the film's climactic scene Ananya finds a new leaf has sprouted from that plant. Overjoyed she starts dancing, feeling the plant's renewed vitality as a reflection of her own recovery. 'Astha' is a poignant and inspiring tale of a woman's journey to reclaim her inner strength and vitality in the face of a devastating diagnosis. Through her unwavering faith and her connection to the metaphorical plant, Ananya finds the courage and strength to confront her mortality and emerge victorious.
